U.S., China Extend Tariff Truce by 90 Days

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Aug. 11 pausing U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods for another 90 days.

Trump pushed back the tariffs on China, which were initially set to resume on Tuesday, until Nov. 10.

If the deadline had not been extended, U.S. tariffs on China would have reverted to their high levels from April. At that time, the president imposed 145% blanket tariffs on Chinese imports, which led China to retaliate with tariffs of 125% on U.S. goods.

A slew of tariffs on 69 trading partners, including Canada, Brazil, India and Taiwan, went into effect on July 31. Those tariff rates include a 35% tariff on many goods from Canada, 50% for Brazil, 25% for India, 20% for Taiwan and 39% for Switzerland.
