President Donald Trump put a 90-day pause on the hefty tariffs he imposed on April 9 that caused major stock indexes to shed trillions of dollars in value.
The pause doesn’t apply to China. Instead, Trump raised Chinese tariffs to 145%. In response, China put a 125% tariff on U.S. goods.
Trump’s pause applies only to the country-specific “reciprocal” tariffs"—the 10% baseline tariffs for all countries remain in place.
Additionally, Mexican and Canadian goods not under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement free trade treaty still have a 25% tariff. Separate tariffs on imported steel, aluminum and autos also remain.
