Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (Murray, Utah) recently signed a letter of intent to acquire F9 Brands Inc. (Lawrenceburg, Tenn.), including its brands Lumber Liquidators, Cabinets To Go, Gracious Home / Thos. Baker and Southwind Building Products.
The acquisition will be another step in the Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, buybuy Baby and Kirkland’s owner’s plan for a “national, fully integrated home services platform under Beyond Home Services,” the company said in a press release. “Beyond Home Services will combine category leading brands across cabinets, flooring, closets, and distribution with installation services, financing solutions, and a growing retail footprint, positioning Bed Bath & Beyond to participate in larger, higher frequency home projects with increased customer lifetime value.”
Recently announcing its move from Virginia to Tennessee, Lumber Liquidators has undergone multiple upheavals since its founding in 1994. In 2024, it sold its 216 stores, inventory, distribution center and intellectual property back to founder Tom Sullivan’s private equity firm, F9 Investments. The sale happened after it declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy and would be closing all its stores and liquidating.
Sullivan served as president and CEO of Lumber Liquidators from 1994-2006, and as CEO again in 2015, three months after ‘60 Minutes’ aired its exposé on the formaldehyde content of the company’s Chinese-made laminate products.
Sullivan’s position was eliminated in 2017, but he made several attempts to purchase the company afterwards, finally doing so in 2024.
Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. plans to purchase F9 Brands for nearly $150 million by May of this year. Current F9 Brands president and CEO Jason Delves will serve as CEO of Beyond Home Services and join Bed Bath & Beyond Inc.’s executive leadership team.
