The floor is part of the partnership between the estate of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the National Basketball Association, the National Basketball Players Association and Nike.

The design for the court, unveiled Dec. 1, features the MLK initials along the sidelines, along with 22 “Freedom Stars” representing the 22 times King was arrested in his fight for equality.

The central logo featured the Hawks logo in a “mosaic pattern reminiscent of a stained-glass motif.”

The special court is used in addition to the team's main court design.

The court was completed by Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Praters Flooring, which also completed the team’s main court. Praters is a winner of multiple WFB Design Awards for its sports flooring.

More about the court and the accompanying team uniform design can be found here.
