Trick of the Trade: Taming the Glug-Glug

When pouring stain, most people naturally pour with the spout as close to the bucket as possible, thinking they won't spill or splatter it all over. However, to get a smoother pour, avoid splatter and prevent infusing the stain with air bubbles, pour so the spout is at the top, as shown above on the right. Air can then enter the can slowly instead of gasping in between glugs.
