Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) introduced a bill last week that would block the potential listing of the northern long-eared bat (NLEB) as a threatened species.
The bat’s listing, wanted by conservationists as a way to protect the bat population that is threatened by white-nose disease, could curtail logging operations in NLEB habitat for much of the year.
"Limiting forest management practices due to listing the long-eared bat as endangered is not only reckless, but it is irresponsible," Thune said in a statement.
