The export of sawlogs, veneer and pulpwood is prohibited starting Jan. 1 in Belarus in order to ensure local companies get the wood material they need to conduct business, but the country’s forestry minister has reportedly said he believes the country will have a surplus of logs under the prohibition, according to Fordaq.
The Minister of Forestry Mikhail Amelianovich said that “even after every Belarusian woodworking enterprise has got the whole amount of logs needed for its work there will still be an excess of about 2 million cubic meters of logs,” according to Fordaq.
The minister has sent a letter to President Alexander Lukashenko asking him for permission to export the excess logs.
