In the wake of Lumber Liquidators’ multimillion dollar Lacey Act settlement, the International Wood Products Association is launching a nationwide training program to help wood trade professionals establish best practices to comply with the federal legislation.
The course, titled “Seeing the Forest and the Trees,” is developed for CEOs, CFOs, buyers, compliance staff, customs specialists, sales staff, overseas producers and exporters. It provides an analysis of Lacey Act requirements and of other laws relevant to the global and local trade of wood products.
“There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to sourcing and compliance,” said IWPA Executive Director Cindy Squires in a statement. “These due-diligence tools reflect the legal requirements and the industry’s need for flexibility to adjust their corporate standards and procedures based on the particular specifications of their product, the country of origin and the complexity of their supply chain.”
The one-day course will be held in locations spanning the United States, including in High Point, N.C., on May 19; Pomona, Calif., on May 24; Portland, Ore., on May 26; Chicago on June 21; Atlanta on Aug. 23; and Alexandria, Va., on Sept. 21.
Registration for the six regional courses is available online.
