The United States Environmental Protection Agency will not pursue additional federal regulations to address storm-water discharges from roads used mainly by the forestry industry, according to the Hardwood Federation.
The EPA believes efforts to strengthen the state, federal, regional, tribal government and private sector programs in place across the country would be more effective than further regulation, according to the Federation.
The forest programs have high implementation rates and have proven to be effective when run properly, the Federation said.
A final notice of the EPA’s decision will be published in the Federal Register in early July.
