The Hardwood Federation brought 40 individuals representing the hardwood industry in the United States to Washington D.C. on Sept. 21 to lobby congressional leaders during the organization’s annual Fly-In.
The 40 industry representatives spoke with senators and members of the House of Representatives about five of the Federation’s key issues: federal forestry reform, changes to the IRS Estate Tax, biomass carbon neutrality, tall wood buildings and the federal Market Access Program and Foreign Market Development Program.
The convoy of industry representatives included names from the flooring industry, such as NWFA President and CEO Michael Martin; American OEM’s Don Finkell, Emily Finkell and Allie Finkell; and Derr Flooring President Rick Holden, among others.
“Our participants were a great mix of knowledgeable Fly-In veterans and eager new faces,” said Federation Executive Director Dana Lee Cole in a statement. “They stormed the Hill in small groups and visited as many congressional offices as possible to make a real difference!”
