Sprinkler System Floods Basketball Court, Destroys Wood Floor

An errant soccer ball kick during gym class at a high school in Maine hit a ceiling fire sprinkler, causing it to activate and flood the hardwood court with thousands of gallons of water, according to WMTW.

The floor at Cape Elizabeth High School in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, was destroyed and had to be removed. It is the second gym floor destroyed by a water damage in as many years for the high school.

The school’s athletic director was in disbelief at the lucky—or unlucky—kick.

“Balls go into the ceiling all the time,” Jeff Thoreck, Cape Elizabeth athletic director, told WMTW. “I don’t think it could have happened if someone was aiming a ball at that intentionally.”
