Myanmar will allow companies to resume logging teak and other hardwoods with limits this month, following a year-long ban on all logging activity after the country suffered significant deforestation, according to Fordaq.
The country will cap teak production at 1,274 tons, and the cap on all hardwood will be 270,000 tons. The decision to resume logging operations was made head off supply shortages in the industry.
“The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation will make a sustained effort at reforestation and conservation in the forest across Myanmar,” ministry officials told Fordaq.
