Floor & Décor (Smyrna, Ga.) paid $14 million to settle a class action suit that alleged the retailer mislabeled laminate flooring as in compliance with California Air Resource Board formaldehyde limits, according to Denver CBS 4.
Floor & Décor did not admit any fault, per the terms of the settlement. It released the following statement to Wood Floor Business: “Floor & Décor denies the allegations in the lawsuit and stands by the safety of its products. To avoid the cost and burden of litigation, Floor & Décor reached a settlement with plaintiffs to end this litigation, and that settlement has been approved by the court. Per the terms of that agreement, Floor & Décor cannot comment further. The company reaffirms the safety of all its products.”
The lawsuit was filed December 2015 and concerns the company’s Chinese-made laminate products. The claims are similar to those filed against Lumber Liquidators beginning after a “60 Minutes” expose in March 2015.
Floor & Décor customers who purchased Chinese-made laminate flooring between Jan. 1, 2012, and Aug. 1, 2015, may receive reimbursement via store credit or cash. Claim forms must be postmarked by March 7. More information is available at fdsettlement.com.
