It was Disney’s fault.
The Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the Portland Trail Blazers was put on ice (literally) Monday, postponed because of condensation on the hardwood court surface, according to Twin Cities Pioneer Press. Disney on Ice had held an event over the weekend, and the National Collegiate Hockey Conference starts March 17, so the ice rink was left underneath.
Combined with unseasonable humidity and temperatures above 60 in Minneapolis on Monday, the court became a slick wet mess. Employees were mopping the court during pregame warmups, and facility management tried to keep as low a temperature as possible to decrease the humidity, but the court was ultimately found to be unsafe and unplayable. The game was canceled.
“On a slippery court?” Timberwolves Point Guard Kris Dunn told Twin Cities Pioneer Express. “That’s like playing tennis in the rain. It’s just not happening. It just won’t happen.”
This is the second game cancelled this season due to moisture on the court. A Philadelphia 76ers game suffered the same fate in December.
