After WFB shared the “Frankenstein Flooring” story on Facebook, contractor Joshua Smith of Premier Hardwood Floors in Pocatello, Idaho, shared his own creation: electrified stair risers.

The stairs, which are in his split-level home, are made with angelim pedra wood and coated with Glitsa Gold Seal semi-gloss finish. He also added glow-in-the-dark pigment to the epoxy inside the fractal patterns. The lower portion of the stairs glows lime green, and the upper portion glows purple.

These electric fractal patterns are created by clipping electric wires along the perimeter of a piece of wood. As the power is turned on, the electricity courses through the wood and tries to complete a circuit, all the while burning a unique shape—called a Lichtenberg figure—through the face.
