Ponders Hollow (Westfield, Mass.), a sawmill specializing in custom wood flooring, is donating white oak wood flooring and providing educational mentoring to students for the Laconia, N.H.-based Huot Technical Center’s Tiny House Project.
The project, geared toward developing a pipeline of talent to enter into vocational trades, is done in collaboration with the Lakes Regional Builders and Remodelers Association, and includes training in construction, electrical and plumbing.
Supervised by a Ponders Hollow representative, students will learn all aspects of wood flooring during the project, including subfloor preparation, sanding, staining and finishing with polyurethane.
It’s the second Tiny House built by the program. The project is scheduled to wrap up by the end of the school year and the Tiny House will be made available for sale, with the proceeds donated to the cost of building material for future projects, as well as educational scholarships.
“The Tiny House project is a fantastic opportunity to get young students excited about the homebuilder’s industry,” said Ray Boelig, Ponders Hollow director of sales and VP of Lakes Region Homebuilders. “Not only are they revolutionizing the future of living spaces, they are also giving back to the community and the continuing future of this important program.”
