The EPA is proposing several technical amendments to TSCA Title VI, its formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood products. The changes would make it easier for entities to report compliance and would more closely align the regulation with the California Air Resources Airborne Toxic Control Measures Phase II regulation for formaldehyde emissions.
The proposed amendments are primarily related to testing and certification standards within the rule, and they include eliminating the requirement for yearly correlations between third-party certifiers and other mill quality testing procedures. The changes would also look to clarify labeling requirements for products.
The proposed changes to TSCA Title VI, which was enacted Dec. 12, 2016, come after extensive feedback from industry stakeholders, according to EPA.
The EPA is seeking additional feedback on the changes, and comments can be submitted here.
