The European Environment Agency (EEA) announced it has launched a Forest Information System for Europe (FISE) to monitor and provide up-to-date data concerning Europe’s forests and forestry health.
The system is the first common database on forest information in Europe.
“The aim is to facilitate expert knowledge sharing, research and innovation through the FISE platform, helping users better understand the complex changes and challenges facing forest ecosystems and their management,” the EEA said in a statement. The system was unveiled Feb. 4 in Brussels, Belgium.
Forests and wooded land cover more than 40% of Europe, according to the EEA.
