The National Wood Flooring Association cancelled its 2020 Wood Flooring Expo in Milwaukee. The cancellation, announced March 16, followed CDC recommendations to postpone large gatherings scheduled for the next eight weeks to prevent further spread of the coronavirus. “For this reason, NWFA unfortunately is forced to cancel its Wood Flooring Expo,” NWFA CEO Michael Martin said in a statement. The convention was scheduled to take place April 28–30.
Martin said in a video update that NWFA was looking at ways to turn content planned for the convention into webinars for its members. Martin said NWFA will cancel hotel reservations made through NWFA and no cancellation fees will be charged.
NWFA was the latest in a growing list of organizations canceling or postponing industry events due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Flooring Education Guild, International Wood Products Association and Domotex Asia/ChinaFloor have also postponed or altered scheduled events since the outbreak.
On Monday, President Trump recommended avoiding gatherings of more than 10 people to stop the spread of the virus. As of press time, there were nearly 195,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus around the globe, with more than 7,870 fatalities.
