On Friday, we asked our followers on Facebook and Instagram this question: How has your business been impacted by the pandemic? Here is a sampling of their responses:
ehfloors: Toronto City inspectors stopped issuing building permits. So nothing new will get build or renovated. So no flooring jobs for us. Tough times ahead!
cardinalfloorsinc: We mainly do new construction and are the only subs in the house while installing and finishing ... so far so good. Suppliers are still open and shipping.
parada86: Clients with big tickets returned samples and stated they want to hold on until summer or to see whats left after the coronavirus aftermath.
grithardwood: We voluntarily cancelled all jobs last week because we knew Pennsylvania would be shut down. Five days later, Pennsylvania is shut down. All distribution is closed and there is a list of applicable businesses to be open. Unfortunately, we will have to wait for the rest of the country to figure out that this is the only way. We are being restricted amounts of paper products and sanitizers we can buy. If you are a business that can't afford to shut down and take a hit, then you aren't a business, you are a worker.
plankd_flooring: Some minor shipping delays already and 1 client returning from overseas had to be pushed on a few weeks. Not too bad just yet.
reddys_hardwood_flooring: Some jobs pushing and some jobs begging ... some employees not coming in some wanting to work ... uneasy times to say the least.
buckpesiri: All jobs postponed.
missmyhardwood: So far no cancellations, most of our jobs are empty. Just worried about how this will affect a few months from now.
cadams1555: Not too bad. Walk-in traffic is slow, but we have several remodels going in vacant houses, some new construction which is already funded, and some restaurant remodels, which is excellent timing since restaurant dining rooms are currently closed. Handing in there for now!
seanfloors: All of our upcoming jobs on our schedule already cancelled.
mfcoflooringtempeaz: We work with many staging and event companies which they all had to cancel due to all events being canceled or postponed. Our commercial side is still going strong but residential is slower. And certain materials we can nu o longer get an eta for so we arw not ordering certain products for the meantime
traceydavis7140: None so far, I’m busy
Robert Pearce: Had to shut down!
Roc Beysd: Everyone is canceling
Tung Quoc Huynh: This is just a beginning. I think it’s going to get worse. 2 canceled, 2 postponed. I’m sure my May/June projects will cancel as well. Hope not.
Charlie Bransom: Not a problem in Texas, yet!
Eric Herman: All buildings we’ve been working in [in NYC] are shut down.
David Habib: We are in NJ, this is usually one of the busiest months of the year. Our leads are significantly down. Typically we would do 20-30 in home estimates per week. This week we did 5. Several of the jobs we had on the schedule are postponing & others that want to move forward with the job want to wait until this goes away. We will make sure we use the time wisely and work on the business!
Jordan Webb: Got to start school projects scheduled for spring break early!
Steven Triplett Jr.: The awkwardness of not shaking hands drives me crazy. We haven't lost work.
Sylvain Oxygene: Still working full in Canada. Had one cancelation. And booking more job. I keep my distance from everyone. I always keep a good stock of everything. But it will turn bad quickly I'm sure.
Bill Bagley: Doing double time as my client was in Florida til May, now coming home Thursday. Sanding as many as I can before we get shut down. I'm tired and sore but blessed.
Davis Bell: I am in distribution in Texas and some of our stores have actually seen a boost in sales since the news broke last week. Fingers crossed that the trend continues and home owners continue to work on their homes!
