As hospitals and first responders around the country put out calls for donations of face masks due to shortages spurred by COVID-19, wood flooring companies are answering with donations.
Ace Wood Flooring in Smithfield, R.I., donated more than 5,000 masks to first responders after the state’s governor put out a call for medical gear donations, the Valley Breeze reports. The more than 67 boxes of masks couldn’t go to hospitals due to sourcing restrictions, so they were given to local first responders in need of them, according to the report.
“The governor made a call and asked for masks and we answered,” Troy Hewes of Ace Wood Flooring said.
Foulk’s Flooring America in Meadville, Pa., was shut down under the state’s closure of nonessential businesses last week. On March 21, it donated 640 N95 masks to the Meadville Medical Center.
“We felt fortunate we were able to help in a small way,” the company wrote on its Facebook page.
Along with urgently needed N95 masks, many hospitals are also seeking donations of safety glasses and nitrile gloves, among other items. Visit your local hospital’s website for information about what items are being requested at that facility and how to donate.
