Total employment reached 7.34 million in October, an increase of 1.2% from September but down 3.9% compared with pre-pandemic numbers in February.
Construction unemployment was 6.8% during the month, or 674,000, the lowest rate since the pandemic hit, but significantly higher than October 2019’s 4.0% unemployment.
AGC surveys found a minority of contractors expect to add jobs in the next year, and the organization anticipates increasing project cancellations will lead to additional construction job losses.
