U.S. Hardwood Flooring Imports See 1% Growth in February

Hardwood flooring imports increased 1% by volume in February, ITTO reported.

Hardwood flooring imports from Indonesia surged to its highest month since April 2020, while imports from Malaysia dropped 77% and imports from Brazil declined 43%.

Total imports of hardwood flooring were up 8% over 2021 through the first two months of the year.

Imports of engineered wood flooring panels dropped 14% in February with declines in imports from Canada, Brazil, Vietnam and Thailand. Through the first two months of the year, total imports of engineered wood flooring panels were up 89% over 2021, according to ITTO.

U.S. imports of hardwood plywood declined 11% in February, with imports from China declining 41%. Hardwood plywood imports from Russia declined 17% in February but were up 60% year-to-date. Russia’s war in Ukraine, which began Feb. 24, is expected to impact the supply of plywood in the U.S., where many engineered wood flooring manufacturers rely on Russian plywood for engineered cores.

Hardwood plywood imports from Vietnam fell 21% from January but were still nearly 125% above February 2021 imports.
