A high school in Charleston, W.Va., is back to square one after its new gym floor was damaged by a sprinkler system set off after oil-soaked rags spontaneously combusted, WOWK News reported.
The oily rags spontaneously combusted in the back hallway of the gym in Capital High School and caused a banner to catch fire on Aug. 25. The fire was soon doused by the sprinkler system, and no injuries were reported. However, the sprinkler system left about 2 inches of water on the new gym floor, which was in the final stages of completion. It was unclear from reports whether the rags were related to the ongoing work on the gym floor.
The new gym floor had replaced a 34-year-old floor. It was installed over the course of six weeks and cost $233,880, according to WOWK.
