The owner of a hardwood flooring company in Virginia Beach, Va., says an attack on his crew led to the shooting of a man in self-defense on a job site earlier this month, WAVY reported.
The incident occurred on Oct. 13 on the second floor of a condo, where the crew were installing a hardwood floor. According to the owner of the company, who did not want to use his name with WAVY, a woman in the condo below called the police with a noise complaint around 8:30 a.m. The police arrived and explained the crew were not doing anything wrong, but the woman was not satisfied. “She came up there after the police left and she said, ‘Don’t worry I’m calling somebody else,’” the owner told WAVY.
An hour later, a man appeared on the job site and attacked a member of the installation crew.
“My guy went to put him in a headlock, and the suspect pulled out a gun,” the owner told WAVY.
After continued scuffling, another member of the crew pulled out his own gun in self-defense, and, according to the company owner, repeatedly told the intruding gunman to drop his weapon. The intruder refused, and the crew member shot him.
The attacker remains in critical condition, and police are still investigating the incident. Immediately afterward, two men were detained for questioning but later released and no charges were filed.
The owner of the flooring company says the incident has left him and his team shaken and wants charges filed on the woman in the condo below.
“If the lady never would have called for them to come out, none of this would have ever happened, and I truly believe charges should be filed on her,” he told WAVY. “One of my guys is having problems sleeping, and he’s a grown man. When you have to go through that and you have to determine if it’s your life or their life … it’s a lot on my guys. I feel so bad for them.”
