Construction employment rose in 227 of the 358 metros—63%—year-over-year in February, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors.
“Construction employment has posted steady increases nationally and most metro areas but the industry will need even more workers to meet the demand for nearly every project type,” stated Ken Simonson, AGC’s chief economist. “Construction spending increased more than 10% from February 2023 to February 2024, suggesting the industry will want to hire more workers in many markets.”
Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, Ariz., added the most construction jobs year-on-year with 7,300, followed by Fort Worth-Arlington, Texas, with 4,300.
The largest construction job losses were recorded in New York City, which shed 9,800 jobs compared with February 2023.
