Jakko Woudenberg, the Dutch Wood Artist of “The Night Watch in Wood” fame, has launched a collective wood floor art project called “Pay It Forward” that currently spans eight countries and 39 participants. The purpose is to bring together wood floor panels made by varying levels of craftspeople from around the world into one frame, while also encouraging participants to help others within and outside of the wood flooring industry.
“This project is about more than wood,” Woudenberg says. “Everyone who joins this movement agrees to help three people without expecting anything in return. Those people are then encouraged to help three others, creating a growing ripple of kindness across the world.”
Floor panels must be at least 1 square meter in size and can be designed and finished however the participant chooses. Once all panels are together in one artwork, Woudenberg says the entire floor will be sanded and finished as one. The timeline and location for the final floor has yet to be determined, but will be gifted “to one or multiple public locations depending on how the project evolves,” Woudenberg said. “The goal is to bring the artwork to different countries, communities, events and locations.”
