The Hardwood Federation is encouraging members of the hardwood industry to reach out to government officials about the impact of the escalating trade war between the U.S. and China.
The third and latest list of tariffs proposed by the U.S. on China includes hardwood, and China’s retaliatory list of tariffs includes 25 percent duties on U.S. hardwood.
The anticipated date for the U.S.’s decision of whether to impose the new tariffs on China is Oct. 1, according to the Hardwood Federation; China has stated its retaliatory tariffs would go into immediate effect should the latest round of U.S. tariffs be implemented.
“The Hardwood Federation is reaching out to the [Trump] Administration, Congressional Leaders and the trade community in Washington D.C. to share the hardwood industry’s experience,” the Federation said in a statement. “But it is vital that business owners, employers and employees also make their voices heard.”
