Elizabeth Swift Brown, Allen Harris Jr. and Dona Musolf have been recognized for their contributions to the wood flooring industry through a Legacy Scholarship with the National Wood Flooring Association Education and Research Foundation.
Elizabeth Swift Brown, Allen Harris Jr. and Dona Musolf have been recognized for their contributions to the wood flooring industry through a Legacy Scholarship with the National Wood Flooring Association Education and Research Foundation.
The scholarships were created to honor industry leaders whose efforts during their careers advanced both the NWFA and wood flooring industry. The money helps educate future generations of wood flooring professionals.
Brown cofounded French-Brown Floors (Dallas) in 1952 with her husband. She was a founding member of the International Furnishings and Design Association and president of the Greater Dallas Floor Covering Association. She was inducted into the Western Floors Magazine Hall of Fame and received the NWFA’s Industry Leadership Award in 2002. Brown passed away in 2014.
Harris Jr. was the third generation of his family to lead Harris Wood Floors (Johnson City, Tenn.), which was started by his grandfather in 1902. Harris merged the company with Tarkett International in 1983 and expanded its product line to include engineered wood. He was the first inductee to the NWFA Hall of Fame in 1989, and was inducted into the Maple Floor Manufacturers Association Hall of Fame in 2003. He passed away in 1992.
Musolf cofounded Lon Musolf Distributing with her husband, Lon, in 1953. She served as the company’s secretary and treasurer until she retired in 1996. She and her husband was involved with NWFA since its inception and were instrumental in the growth of the association during its earliest days. Musolf passed away in 2015.
To be honored with a Legacy Scholarship, nominees must receive funding of $5,000 and be approved by a scholarship committee. There are currently 21 people recognized by Legacy Scholarships.
