In one of the latest instances of wood floor pros giving back during the coronavirus crisis, Metropolitan Hardwood Floors General Manager Dave Sandover coordinated with one of his suppliers in China to donate 2,000 N95 masks to Vancouver General Hospital, The Province reports.
The company’s flooring partner in China had been keeping Sandover appraised of the COVID-19 situation in China in February and offered to send Metropolitan additional N95 masks in stock. Sandover turned the offer down at the time, but after learning more about the situation from a friend in the medical field, later took the contact up on the offer. Metropolitan partnered with Citifund Capital Corp. to coordinate the shipment.
The shipment was slow going due to added inspection regulations for large shipments from China, but Sandover’s partner in China stepped in and repackaged the shipment into smaller boxes that began arriving last week.
“I wanted to do something, anything I could,” Sandover told The Province. “The N95 masks were the only thing I knew I could source--and the only thing I knew I could do.”
Hospitals around the U.S. have seen a severe shortage of N95 masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic and have been seeking donations for masks and other PPE. Visit your local hospital’s website for information about what items are being requested and how to donate.
