A still from a documentary being made about Jakko Woudenberg's efforts to recreate The Night Watch painting using wooden cubes.
Rembrandt’s famous 1642 painting “The Night Watch” measures 12 by 14½ feet.
Jakko Woudenberg—who turned heads around the world with his inspired, Design-Award winning tree ring floor project “Innsaei” in 2020—has set out to recreate the famous Rembrandt painting in wood—pixel by pixel.
Woudenberg, who owns Dutch Wood Artist, has published a documentary about how he’s been tackling the ambitious project over the past year.
Woudenberg is using 1 cm by 1 cm wooden cubes—over 200,000 of them—to create the painting by the fellow Dutch artist.
The project is nearing completion, and you’ll read more about it in WFB when it’s done. Until then, Woudenberg’s artistic process can be viewed here.
