I’m really impressed with the Arbortech Cordless Mini Grinder. From the hard case to the DeWalt charger and battery to its ease of operation, I can’t compliment this product enough and am thrilled to add it to Dande West’s tool arsenal.

Goodbye canvas bag, hello hard case

This first thing you’ll notice is that this tool comes in a hard case, not a canvas bag. The mini grinder and all of its accessories fit nicely, with a place for everything—including the charger, the battery and the tool itself. A nice bonus is the sturdy bag that holds accessories and seals with fold-over hook-and-loop fasteners, not a flimsy drawstring.

What’s inside?

A quick inventory of blades reveals a 3-inch wheel for cutting ceramic, mortar and concrete and a 5-inch disc for cutting metal—each with their own dust guards and a single vacuum guard for both. There is also a 2 1/8-inch wheel for tackling ceramic and mortar (especially in harder-to-access tight spots), a handy fiber cup wheel and three sanding discs with varying grits. The smaller-diameter applications also come with a vacuum attachment.

‘Like an iPhone’

The tool, to its credit, is like an iPhone: Using it is intuitive, which is good for those of us who don’t like reading directions. Accessories attach and detach easily, and the tool itself is easy to handle and allows for a comfortable grip. That’s definitely an intentional design enhancement. Other notable features include two spindle locks and a speed-selection switch.

A quick return on investment

Taken collectively, these features and accessories add up to a really nice tool. It feels good in my hand, and the battery is powerful. But what’s really cool is that a tool like this, which costs several thousand dollars, will pretty quickly provide a return on investment because of the way it allows us to do our jobs faster and better.
