My crews and I have already been using the corded Arbortech Mini Grinder for cutting and sanding (see my review of that tool here). But the latest version of this tool is battery-powered, and I’m really liking the convenience it offers. Of course, the first thing you’ll notice is that the tool comes with a DeWalt battery and really fast charger, which is perfect for our team at Craftsman Hardwood Flooring, because we use a lot of DeWalt tools. In my mind, the cordless version of this tool is definitely an upgrade.

Two dust collection ports

One of the highlights is the two dust collection ports for different blade sizes. This makes sense, because the kit comes with two different diamond cutting tools, which is handy. We cut back a lot of tile in doorways that are not straight, and I know we’re not the only wood floor pros that run into that issue. So we use these tools and their built-in dust collectors to fine-tune edges. I especially like the way each collector pivots depending on how you make your cut, ensuring solid dust containment.

Easy to navigate tight spots

We do everything from sanding wood floors to cutting back tile, and one thing I really like about this tool is its wide array of disc options—which is awesome for getting in between spindles and other hard-to-reach areas. And the fact that it doesn’t require a cord makes it even more versatile, especially in tight spots.

Better packaging

I also want to mention the case. The earlier corded version of the Arbortech Mini Grinder came in a soft case, but this cordless model is housed in a smartly designed hard case to help organize all of the accessories—including the battery and charger. It’s so nice having everything I need in one place, and I consider the packaging a real upgrade from the earlier model.

Packing a punch

We put a lot of miles on this tool in a short time, and it’s held up well. It’s lightweight and easy to use, and the battery life is strong, too. The full package—from power to convenience to performance—packs a punch. I definitely recommend it. It’s going to be one of those tools that can do the job in situations where other tools won’t be as effective. We’re going to continue rocking this thing.
