A search of Apple's App Store turns up 2,200 results for "social networking" apps. Clearly, your business can't be on them all. Over the next few issues of Hardwood Floors we'll review a few of the big ones to help you determine if they're right for business.

What it is: A visual bookmarking site that allows users to share content in the form of a "pin."

Why you should use it: Pinterest can be a quick and easy way to share photos of your work, raise awareness of your business and drive tons of traffic to your site.

What to keep in mind: Pinterest requires visuals. If you're sharing content from your own site, it will need a photo to accompany it. Also, unlike some social networks, Pinterest doesn't have a built-in feature that allows you to schedule posts in advance, meaning all posts made directly in Pinterest have to be made in real time.

Verdict: Some of Pinterest's most active users are DIYers and people working on home renovation projects. The site's visual nature lends itself to those who are seeking ideas and inspiration for their home. Here at Hardwood Floors, we're seeing photos that link back to our website shared on Pinterest every day, leading to thousands of new site visitors. If you have a website and photos to share, Pinterest could be doing the same for you.
