Combining compelling visuals with an interesting story is the key to TikTok success, according to Berrien Springs, Mich.-based Lumberjack Flooring Co-Owner Julie Kelly. The company used that formula on a recent TikTok explaining the old-school method of painting gym floors using tape machines, and it resulted in 2.6 million views and 52,000 likes. This level of success on a video isn’t uncommon for them.
The company, found at @lumberjackwoodsupply, has amassed over 28,000 followers and 2 million likes since joining the platform a year ago. Kelly says videos of wood floor staining, installation and transformations do well on their own, but they blow up when matched with a voiceover of an engaging anecdote.
The company posted a similar TikTok of gym line painting without a voiceover and it received 2.5 million fewer views. “Gym videos do really well with a voiceover because people typically don’t know how game lines are done,” Kelly explains. She suggests adding voiceovers of trade secrets, how-to instructions or funny customer interactions to TikTok videos to help grab and hold your audience’s attention.
