A picture is worth a thousand words, and for Bloomington, Minn.-based Unique Wood Floors, a good one can also translate into a great reference. The company offers its clients professional photo shoots of their new floors as a complimentary memento to share with family and friends after installation. Sales and Marketing Director Andrew Zheng came up with the idea after his own home was put up for sale and professionally photographed. "It made me realize how important presentation and visualization is," Zheng says. He budgets $130 for each photo shoot, working with the same photographer each time. "It sounds like a large investment, but these photos provide so much more value," Zheng says. The company leverages the photos on social media, where the company now picks up half its web traffic. "Social media is all about capturing the most eyeballs, and photos are the best way to do this," Zheng says. "People associate nice presentation with craftsmanship and high-quality products." Zheng believes the high-end photos will continue to grow and keep up the company's social media presence: "I'm not going to claim to be the next Kim Kardashian," he says, "but we're hoping to build a community and be able to influence the market and trends in the flooring industry."
