Traditional YouTube video views can be a tough nut to crack, but over the years Ben Osborne of Osborne Woodcare in Hertfordshire, England, has found a way to crack them, racking up over 72,000 subscribers and over 17 million views on his channel. YouTube Shorts, which mirror the popular TikTok and Instagram Reel vertical video format, are a new way to reach more views on the platform. “You can rack up serious view numbers with Shorts,” says Osborne, who has reached tens of thousands in just a few months of using Shorts. “In our industry, visuals are a great way to capture attention and hold it.” The perks of the Shorts format go beyond just YouTube, as well. “The best thing about YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram is that they are all basically the same format,” Osborne says, “meaning you can repurpose your content for all the platforms—you don’t need to create new content for each.”
