JP Silva of Nashville, Tenn.-based Master Flooring Floor Design installed his first reclaimed barnwood floor in 2016, and since then the flooring has become a staple for the homes of local celebrities. “I do a lot of barnwood in Nashville for country singers and some famous people here,” Silva says. The flooring is typically white oak, and popular widths are gradually getting wider. Careful to maintain the beloved scuffs, Silva has developed the perfect combination of hand-scraping and finishing to make the floors sing. “Some people don’t like it, but many people do like the saw marks, nail holes, the dirty parts and different colors,” he says.
