Are your Social Media Accounts Due for a Remodel?

If you're a reader of this column, you (hopefully) log in to your social media accounts regularly. You make a few posts, check your notifications and respond to those who have contacted you. But when was the last time you took a good look at the most basic information on your social media profiles? I'm talking about things like the "About" tab on your Facebook page or your cover photo and bio on Twitter.

We see a lot of companies that have forgotten all about these sections. In the excitement (or perhaps dread) of setting up your Facebook page, you plugged in some basic copy thinking, "I'll come back and update this later." Yet so often we never do. And when customers come looking at your pages, they're seeing information that, at best, was hurriedly thrown together or, at worst, is outdated or inaccurate altogether.

It's important to remember your social media profile could be the first chance your business has to make an impression on a prospect. And you know what they say about first impressions.

Are you making the best impression in front of potential customers?

Even here at Hardwood Floors we realized we needed to follow our own advice. Some of the information—and definitely some of our cover photos—on our social media sites had grown stale.

As someone in charge of running a business, you have many tasks that might take precedence over your social media profiles. But social media is a public representation of your business. Are you making the best impression in front of potential customers?

True to the "remodeling" theme of this issue, pull up your social media sites and consider giving them an update. It's the easiest remodeling job you'll ever do.
