Want Your Business on Google? Emphasize Content, Not SEO

Depending on who you ask, Search Engine Optimization can be everything from vital to a futile practice. Regardless, SEO is a big industry: According to a site called State of Digital, 863 million websites mention SEO. So when looking to bump your website up the Google algorithm, how do you know which of those 863 million sites has reliable information?

The answer is that SEO is evolving faster than the industry can keep up. In fact, a recent article on Mashable.com argued the practice of SEO will soon be dead. As Google continues to tweak its algorithms to return the best search results—not just the ones stuffed with the most keywords—it is increasingly more difficult to “fool” the system into moving your site up the rankings.

So rather than use this space to list off a generic, “Three ways to boost your SEO,” I thought I’d pass on great advice from the folks at Mashable: “SEO is not going to get easier. It’s going to get harder and will eventually most likely be next to impossible—because Google’s algorithm’s are always a step ahead.”

The best way to have your site appear high in search engines? Create content that people are searching for and make it easy to find. Do that and you’ll be in good shape, no matter what Google decides. Because the key to having content that people will find is actually having content people want to find.
